Karen Friedman, MS, FNP-C - Board Chair
Karen is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner in clinical practice since 1984 and with deep roots in Boston's medical landscape. As part of the Family Team of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP), she provides outreach services to homeless families throughout Boston area family shelters, domestic violence shelters, and motels. This multidisciplinary team’s services include episodic adult and child health care, mental health and substance abuse treatment, family planning, referral to and coordination with primary and specialty care, social service advocacy and case management services. Prior to joining the Family Team at BHCHP, she worked in a variety of settings in the Boston area including urban, school-based, and college health centers with a primary clinical focus in adolescent health. She has created and directed many clinical programs and in the process has honed her skills in teaching, advocacy and coordination of care. In addition, she has been a preceptor over the past 27 years training clinicians including nursing and nurse practitioner students, and medical fellows. She has a BA from Oberlin College, and an MS from Pace University.

Ariel Belgrave
Ariel Belgrave graduated from Boston College is 2011 with a BA in Psychology and Pre-Medicine. In addition to clinical training, Ariel also expanded her knowledge base of the financial industry. While attending Boston College, she worked at Small Business Accounting Services as a Tax Practitioner Intern, as well as went to Liberty Tax School to become a Certified IRS Tax Professional. She soon founded her own organization, Affordable Tax Services, which provided simple tax services to the student community. Ariel is currently a Senior Business Operations Analyst at JPMorgan. In her past two years working at the organization, Ariel has gained much experience in some of the firm's diverse business functions: analytics, tax, business management, project management, process improvement, diversity & inclusion, operational risk & control, corporate event planning, and core operations. Ariel is extremely passionate about diversity, people development, women's empowerment, and event planning. Her dedication to these passions are evident in her role as Event Chair for Found in Translation's annual fundraiser "Party Around the World," as well as an event volunteer and Social Media Street Team Member for the Massachusetts Conference for Women. In her spare time Ariel enjoys boxing, dancing, cooking, and going on new adventures.

Mark R. Stewart, Ed.D., LMFT
Dr. Stewart has more than 30 years of experience as an educator, family therapist, and school psychologist in clinical and educational settings. He was a staff clinician in the department of psychiatry at Cambridge Health Alliance for over 20 years, and it was there that he began trying to address the specific needs of homeless high school students. This eventually led to the creation of YouthHarbors with the nonprofit Rediscovery, a program that provides housing, case management, and clinical services for homeless high school students in some of Boston’s near-north suburban school districts. In addition to his work with the homeless population, Dr. Stewart also specializes in cross-cultural counseling. At Cambridge Health Alliance, he worked for 10 years at the Haitian Mental Health Clinic and then for another 10 years in the department of Child Psychiatry. He is fluent in Haitian Kreyol and his experience in cross-cultural psychology has resulted in published articles and presentations at national conferences. In 2011, Dr. Stewart retired from his position at Cambridge Health Alliance and now has a private practice in family therapy and school psychology in Cambridge, MA.

Barbara C. Gaskin - Treasurer
Barbara is an independent management consultant with over 25 years of experience. She has worked in the non-profit and for-profit sectors, assisting organizations with strategic planning, performance measurement, project planning, project management, and information technology/business strategy alignment. She has served as Chief Operating Officer of Crosswind Investments, an institutional investment firm, and as CEO of Decision Support Technology, a boutique consulting firm specializing in the design and development of performance measurement systems and the strategic use of information technology. The focus of her current practice is in applying proven principles of performance measurement to social impact and non-profit organizations. She has served on the board of the Carroll School in Lincoln, and is currently a mentor/tutor at Year Up. Barbara has BA degrees in Mathematics and French from Duke University.

Hannah Rose - Youth Board Fellow
Hannah is a high school senior at the Commonwealth School in Boston, Massachusetts. Her interested in pursuing a career in public health and foreign language ignited her interest in Found in Translation. Hannah's community service background includes work with Horizons for Homeless Children and youth literacy programs All-Star Tutoring and Teens for Tzedak. Hannah worked as a counselor at the Mazemakers camp in Weston, MA; a program that emphasizes choice, challenge, and community-building, with a special emphasis on cooperative problem-solving and trust-building activities. Hannah has a weekly radio show at Brandeis University and studied music technology at NYU Steinhardt’s summer program. This summer Hannah will be working with the Quantitative Health Sciences Department of UMass Medical School on a study that aims to increase the number of Hispanic women successfully receiving perinatal care through a personal narrative intervention. She has studied abroad in Barcelona, and in addition to English, Hannah speaks Spanish and is studying Catalan.
